Teacher Feature
The first teacher I am featuring is the first one to accept my invitation to come and teach at my Retreat Weekends.....Wendie Scott-Davis....a highly energetic and inspirational person.
"A born-and-bred ‘Maritimer’, genetically pre-disposed to love this art form. However, it took over 45 years for my rug hooking gene to kick in. Like so many of my co-hookers, my journey to rug hooking wended its way through knitting, crocheting, quilting, painting, woodworking and various other pursuits.
I am a devotee of the group that believes hooking brings together the best of everything. For me, the creativity is in the design and planning. The zen is in the hooking. So, my sketch book is always full of ideas. And my shelves are always full of nearly-finished projects.
I am humbled by the lessons learned in every project I undertake. I am in awe of the many artists in our community who inspire me on a regular basis. I am grateful to my many mentors who have shared so much with me. And I am as passionate about teaching as I am about learning. "

Her classes are Fun !
- Wendie’s ‘Jeanius’ Bags
The ultimate recycling project. Use the leg from an old pair of jeans (hence the oh-so-clever name) as the bag. The hooking’s in the flap. It's the perfect bag to hold your wallet and your sunglasses. Throw it over your shoulder and your hands are free when you run errands.
Choose a simple primitive design in a fun colour palette. Or create something a bit more refined in a fine cut. The sky is the limit. You can pretty much design, hook, assemble and finish it in a weekend. Or at least be well on the way to being done!
And the real “jeanius” is that it’s just about the least expensive thing you will ever hook. - It’s a sign!
And we’re not just talking “Welcome”.
Hook a sign for someone special to celebrate something special.
A new baby. A new cottage. A new name. A favourite saying. A big birthday.
The list goes on and on. Hook it any size you want. Put it anywhere you want.
Door topper. Stair riser. Dresser accessory.
They’re fun. They’re colourful. They’re fast.
And something that will be welcome forever.
Her classes are interesting.
- The Positives of Negative Space.
When you look at something, do you just see the shape?
Now try to focus the space around the shape. Amazing, isn’t it?
Without the space around it, would the shape exist? Hmmm
That’s the power of negative space. Every art book will tell you how important it is to any work of art.
Hooking the space around the shape is a really positive experience. Come and see for yourself.
