Retreat weekend update
April 3-5 Reigning cats was cancelled due to lack of interest.
April 17-19 Open weekend with Jeanne Field is going but there is lots more room if you are interested.
May 1-3 Jeanius Bag weekend with Wendie Scott-Davis is going.....still more room.
August 7-9 Design weekend with me, Karen Kaiser is full and going.
All other weekends have some interest shown but need more participants to make them a "go".

My Newest Pieces
HOSTAS
Using my Photographs from files, "Flowers and Foliage" I created this 27"x42" hooked and prodded piece. The flowers are needle felted. Completed Dec. 08.
This one was made in Sept.08. It was inspired by the beautiful and colourful Sea Grape leaves that surround many grassy areas in Florida. (size 24"x33")

Happy New Year!
2009 has begun and all the teachers for my retreat weekends have been published in this blog! And have you seen the ad in "Rug Hooking Mag." page 3? I am so excited!
I have already had a couple of questions.
The $300.00 is in Canadian Dollars and includes 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, 2dinners, snacks, great instruction and fellowship and 'rustic' accommodation...... sort of like camping or a sleep-over.
2-3 people in our trailer,
2 in our guest room (queen size bed & futon chair),
2 people in single beds in the 'pool' room(not swimming pool) and
2 people in the rec. room. The teacher will sleep in my studio. Please bring your own pillow.
We are hoping to have the new log cabin ready for the June classes so we can accommodate more people.
We have lots of hot water for showers but we do ask that you bring your own towel.
Now all you have to do is chose and come visit....I am so looking forward to meeting many fellow hookers and ruggers.

In April we start to see the Redwings, Mallards and Killdeers come home.

In May we see the grass and trees come back to life with virgin greens and gorgeous bloom.

Teacher Feature - Andrea Graham
Using both traditional nomadic and modern feltmaking techniques, wool fibre is magically transformed. My work is not sewn or painted and no adhesives or polymers are utilized. Felted wool is traditionally created with wool fibre, soap, water and the energy and vision of the maker. Alternately, a single barbed needle borrowed from industrial felting machines can be used as a sculpting tool, entangling the scales on the wool fibres, creating felt of another sort. These techniques together allow for endless possibilities. The materials are renewable, sustainable and compostable which allows my message to be consistent with the medium.
States of growth and decay, injury and healing, and environmental justice are themes I am currently exploring. Growths and spores, open wounds and haphazard sutures are metaphors for the current state of our environment. I am in love with the strange beauty of little things that grow on rocks and the revelations of the tiny world under the microscope. The touchable quality of the wool and the strange bumps and spores (familiar organic forms) inspire my work and offer the dichotomy of familiarity and wonder.

Teacher Feature - Jeanne Field
I have been hooking for 47years and teaching for 44 years. I live in Aurora, Ontario, Canada. And have a rug hooking business called Rittermere-Hurst- Field. I am a designer and teach across Canada and occasionally in the United States. I am a member of OHCG in Ontario, ATHA in the United States and founding member of TIGHR, the International Guild. I have written one book “Shading Flowers” published by Stackpole and have written articles for Rug Hooking Magazine. I also produced a 55 minute video called “Let’s Hook”: an introduction to Rug hooking. I have four children; they are all grown but show a great interest in the hooking world. My daughter, Andrea Sheppard is involved in the business but I still don’t have too much time to hook.
I will be the advisor for the classes...meaning that I will be teaching an open class. As a student you may come and work on any design that you want help with whether it is one in progress or a new design that you wish to start. We well might do some dyeing or talk about specific subjects. I will be in touch with you before the class. Let's make it a fun adventure.
